Everything You Need To Know About Magnetic Nail Polish

06 Sep.,2023

Okay, magnetic nail polish? What on earth is that, we hear you cry. Well, to put it simply, it pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Disclaimer: this does not attract metal objects, so you won’t be walking about like Edward Scissorhands.

Essentially, by using a special type of polish with magnetic particles, you can create your own nail art patterns with just a magnet tool. Cool, right? Who knew!

If this concept is a bit of a weird one to get your head around, don’t worry, we’re about to explain what exactly this is, how to apply and remove, as well as the different ways to wear it.

You’ll be extra magnetic in no time.

What Is Magnetic Nail Polish?

Essentially, magnetic polish gives your nails a fun textured effect through the use of metallic particles that can be ‘activated’ by a magnet.

Magnetic polishes are so on trend right now and it’s something that the Mylee Tribe has been requesting for a while.

The two key Mylee products to help create this trend are the Mylee Cat Eye Gel Polish and the Magnet Duo for Cat Eye Polish.

One of the tools from this duo features a circle on one end and a rectangle on the other, whilst the other has a flower shape on one end and a row of little balls on the opposite end.

How to Apply Magnetic Nail Polish

This technique probably boasts the most fun application process and is actually far more simple than first meets the eye.

We’ve broken it down into 5 easy steps that will help you achieve that perfect magnetic mani!

Step One

Prep nails as usual and apply Mygel Base Coat, curing with an LED or UV lamp.

Step Two

Prep nails as usual and apply Mygel Base Coat, curing with an LED or UV lamp.

Step Three

Apply a layer of Cat Eye effect polish and before curing the polish, hover your magnet over the polish for a few seconds and move around until you achieve your desired look. Cure to set your design.

Step Four

Apply a layer of MyGel Top Coat straight onto the nail and cure. Remove tacky layer with some Prep & Wipe on a Lint Free Wipe.

Step Five

Apply cuticle oil on cuticles and enjoy your magnetic manicure!

How to Remove Magnetic Nail Polish

A common misconception is that wearing gel polish will damage your natural nails.

Actually, it’s incorrectly removing gel polish that does this. Picking or peeling your gel nail polish can damage your natural nail bed underneath and cause your nails to feel thinner or more bendy and prone to breakage.

Here are a few methods on how to correctly and safely remove your magnetic nail polish.

Step One

Buff your nails to remove the shine of the top coat. This must be done firmly as the surface must be opened up to allow you to penetrate your gel polish with remover.

Step Two

Once the top layer is thoroughly buffed, there are several options to remove your gel polish.

You can soak a cotton pad, cotton ball, or Lint Free Wipe with Mylee Gel Remover, or 100% Pure Acetone and place over the gel colour.

You can then secure this with clips or a piece of foil wrapped around the fingertip. Leave this on for 10 to 15 minutes to soak.

Step Three

Another option is to apply the Magic Gel Remover. Simply paint on a thick coat once your top layer is buffed and it on for 5-6 minutes. It should start to bubble and lift.

Step Four

Use a Wooden Cuticle Pusher Stick or the Mylee Gel Scraper to gently push away the gel polish from your nail bed.

Step Five

Wash your hands immediately after use. Once your gel is removed, via any method, make sure to re-hydrate your nails using some cuticle oil and hand cream!

Different Ways to Wear Magnetic Nail Polish

When you see what cool effects these polishes can achieve, you’ll be pretty hooked.

Mylee’s Cat Eye Collection is actually based on the zodiac signs. Each of the 12 shades aim to reflect the particular traits associated with the zodiacs, broadly representing fire, earth, air and water.

If you’re a water sign, you might be more inclined towards the pale green-tinged gold shimmer like Cancer, which when disrupted by the magnet reveals deep navy base tones.

This reflects those watery depths and emotional intuition synonymous with the sign.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you’re a fire sign, you might be more attracted to the fiery bronze/ copper shimmer of Leo.

When moved with the magnet, this reveals a deep purple base which reflects a sense of passion and charisma.

Or perhaps a lovely silver holographic shimmer effect polish named 'Orion' takes your fancy? The silver base tone gives off an irrestible shimmering mani!

Of course, you can break outside of your sign and simply match up this futuristic polish with a favourite outfit. The shimmery tones and deeper depths work particularly well for nights out or the darker, cosier days of autumn and winter.

3 Magnetic Gel Polish Tips

Here are some top tips from Mylee on creating the perfect magnetic nails with Cateye Gel Polish.

  1. Hold the magnet as close as possible to the nail for a really defined effect.

  2. Do one nail at a time and cure straight away – that way the magnetic particles are cured into place and don't get a chance to dissipate whilst you do your other nails.

  3. You can also either use 1 coat of cat eye under and cure the top layer, or use black underneath and cure the cat eye over it for a different effect.

Conclusion

So, you’ve learnt that, despite the name, magnetic gel nail polish doesn’t attract loose cutlery or scrap metal.

It’s actually just a really fun and easy way of sprucing up your look!

One of the best parts to this is the artistic freedom it gives you, using different ends of the Magnet Duo for Cat Eye Polish to create a unique effect every time.

The multiple different shades Mylee offers also means you’ll never be stuck for choice when it comes to magnetic gel polish – horoscope fan or no.
