Avoid These Common Mistakes When Using Hyaluronic Acid

07 Sep.,2023

1. Using Too Much Hyaluronic Acid

Using too much hyaluronic acid can lead to an imbalance in your skin’s moisture levels and cause breakouts. Start with small amounts and gradually increase to find what works best for your skin.

2. Not moisturising enough

While hyaluronic acid is great at providing hydration, it’s not a replacement for a moisturizer, or even moisture itself. Make sure to use a moisturizer after using hyaluronic acid to keep your face looking its best. If you are using a hyaluronic serum, try applying it to a damp face, and not a dry face. Hyaluronic acid needs moisture to bond to, and if your skin is dry it will draw that moisture from your skin as opposed to bonding with additional moisture and plumping up your skin.

3. Not Exfoliating Regularly

Hyaluronic acid is best when used on skin that is free from debris. Make sure to exfoliate regularly in order to allow your hyaluronic acid products to work their best.

4. Not Wearing Sunscreen

Sun damage can easily counteract the effects of hyaluronic acid. Make sure to use sunscreen when going outside to help protect your skin. Wearing sunscreen every day is the best thing you can do for your skin, no matter the weather!

5. Not Following Up with Other Skin Care Regimens

Hyaluronic acid is an important part of your skin care routine, but it should not be the only product you use. Use a complete routine of cleansers, exfoliants, moisturisers, and other products to make sure your skin is getting all the nutrients it needs.

6. Not Storing the Product Properly

Make sure to store your hyaluronic acid product in a cool, dark place. Keeping it in a warm or humid environment can degrade its effectiveness.

What step to use a hyaluronic acid serum in your skincare routine

If you are using a product with hyaluronic acid in it as one of the ingredients, then you should follow your usual skincare routine. For example, if you are using a moisturiser with hyaluronic acid in it, then carry on using your moisturiser as your moisturising step.

If you have chosen to use a hylauronic serum as an additional step in your skincare routine, the best way o apply this is on damp skin after you have washed your face, and apply moisturiser straight away over your hyaluronic acid serum. Bare in mind, everyone’s skin is different, so if your skin is responding to a different method of application, then do what’s best for your skin!
